Arts in Action is a student led club whose mission is to bring the artistic talent of LaGuardia High School’s students to the greater community. Founded by Dylan Sachs and Nathaniel McKeever, the club begin as a dedicated group of about 30 kids, later growing into the largest club in our school at over 120 members. The joy that music and art bring to those affected by them is inspiring, and while an opportunity to perform in front of an audience is always welcome, the true reward is brightening people’s lives with a medium that can speak to everyone. Many of the club’s audience members are unable to experience the vibrant culture of New York City, so Arts in Action has decided to bring culture to them. Students perform in senior homes, children’s hospitals, in the residences of the homebound, and participate in sessions that bring visual art to similar locations. After its founding two years ago, LaGuardia’s little club has grown to a membership of over 90 students, received grants, and has held over fifteen different concerts, as well as several art slams. This year, Arts in Action plans to increase the number of concerts and art sessions, in addition to expanding its influence to the outer boroughs of New York.
